The SACCO IT Professionals Association (SITPA) has officially been launched today at a ceremony presided over by Principal Secretary in the State Department for Cooperatives, Mr. Patrick Kilemi, CBS.

The newly unveiled association aims to create a robust platform for ICT professionals within Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs) to collaborate, innovate, and lead the sector into the digital age. The event brought together key industry stakeholders, with SITPA Chairperson Robert Mogoi and members of the Steering Committee in attendance.

Speaking at the event, PS Kilemi hailed the formation of SITPA as a timely and strategic intervention in the cooperative movement’s transformation agenda.

“This is more than just an association—it is a movement to reimagine SACCOs as agile, tech-powered institutions ready to thrive in the Fourth Industrial Revolution,”

he said.

SITPA is expected to drive adoption of cutting-edge technologies including artificial intelligence, blockchain, cloud computing, and automation—technologies seen as essential in reducing operational costs, enhancing transparency, and improving service delivery in the SACCO ecosystem.

Beyond advancing innovation, the association also plans to play a mentorship role—supporting emerging SACCOs and onboarding the next generation of tech-savvy youth into the cooperative space.

“We are looking at integrating Gen-Z into the cooperative movement, tapping into their digital fluency and creativity for long-term impact,”

said Chairperson Mogoi.

The launch of SITPA marks a new era for the sector, as SACCOs seek to future-proof their operations and align with Kenya’s broader digital transformation goals under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

With SITPA now in place, stakeholders are optimistic that Kenya’s cooperatives are better positioned to leverage digital tools to deepen financial inclusion, improve efficiency, and remain competitive in an increasingly tech-driven economy.
