Savings and Credit Cooperative societies have been urged to take note of the changing technological world and embrace the use of techno-mind in their management system.
Speaking during the 20th Congress of Savings &Credit Associations (SACCA) held in Mombasa Kenya, the chief gust Dr. Gervas Machimu, who is a senior lecturer at Moshi Co-operative University, warned that Saccos management face the risk of clinging to older people who are in charge, failing to listen to the voice of millennials.
“There are about 86 million millennials in the Cooperative movement since 1981. Older people are in charge and credit unions are at risk in the future unless the voice of millennials is listened to.”
Millennials mind and attributes are uniquely suited to the evolving landscape of 21st century trade and industrialization. They have a clear vision for this future of the profession, and are equipped to actualize that ideal.
Some of the topics discussed at the congress included rural communities and SACCO’S, leadership and Sacco ability to address inadequate access to finance in rural communities.
The three day summit was opened by Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives Peter Munya, who welcomed over 1000 delegates attending to take time and sample some of the world class tourist attractions found in Kenya.
